Spotlight: Helping Hands Program
by Rev. Gary Canier, Unity of New Braunfels
For over a year, we have been developing and using the Helping Hands Program at Unity of New Braunfels, and it has blossomed into a beautiful ministry of compassionate care. Many have received support when they needed it most, and many others have found the joy and blessing of serving their spiritual family in this way. We are now delighted to share this growing program with any church seeking to expand its outreach in loving, practical ways.
We are happy to offer our Helping Hands Program for free to any ministry, including all of the policies, procedures, and materials we use to run this program. This is a complete account of how we do this as a completely volunteer program. We offer our experience and guidance as a resource for your community. Helping Hands offers each of us the opportunity to participate in sacred service. Every one of us needs help from time to time, and each of us has gifts, time, or experience that can be shared. Together, we can build a community where care flows freely and generously.
Helping Hands connects those who have a need with those who are willing to help. Examples include:
A ride to a doctor’s appointment
A walking partner
A pet sitter
A shopping buddy
A friendly hospital visit
Assistance setting up a computer, TV, or other technology
Each person decides how they want to help based on their interests, skills, and schedule. As needs arise, they simply choose the ones that speak to them—whether they can help once a week, once a month, or once a year. Every act of service is a beautiful way to “pay it forward” and bless one another.
When someone has a need or would like to sign up to be part of the Helping Hands team, they send an email to Helping Hands.
If you would like to receive the turnkey Helping Hands Program, please send an email to Rev. Gary Canier at Unity of New Braunfels. Let’s make a shared commitment to support our beloved community with open hearts and willing hands. And please keep this ministry in your daily prayers as we continue to grow in love, service, and unity.
